L. Ganesan, a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu’s linguistic and social justice movements, died at the age of 91 at his residence in Thanjavur. Ganesan, known for his involvement in the Dravidian movement, had been struggling with age-related health issues and passed away at his home in Ram Nagar.
Born in 1934 in Kannathankudi village, Ganesan was deeply influenced by the Tamil linguistic struggle and social justice principles during his law studies. He joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, founded by C. N. Annadurai, and actively participated in the anti-Hindi imposition protests of the 1960s.
Ganesan had a long political career, serving in various legislative roles. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly multiple times and represented Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1986. Additionally, he held positions in the DMK government and later joined the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
After a stint with the MDMK, Ganesan returned to the DMK and remained active in political and ideological discussions. He will be laid to rest in his hometown, leaving behind his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
