Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj on his birth anniversary. Kamaraj, known as the “Kingmaker” of Indian politics, was born in 1903 in Virudhunagar. He played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle and was hailed as the Father of Education in Tamil Nadu.
Kamaraj, a stalwart of the Indian National Congress, actively participated in the freedom movement and was imprisoned multiple times by the British colonial regime. His leadership was characterized by quiet efficiency, unwavering commitment to Gandhian principles, and strong grassroots connections.
Vice President Radhakrishnan praised Kamaraj’s simplicity, integrity, and selfless service to the people. He highlighted Kamaraj’s establishment of numerous schools to ensure education for every child, especially those from poor and rural backgrounds. Kamaraj’s initiatives for industrial growth, irrigation facilities, rural development, and social welfare laid a strong foundation for Tamil Nadu’s progress.
PM Modi acknowledged Kamaraj’s dedication to social welfare, emphasizing his contributions to education, inclusive development, and the welfare of the underprivileged. Kamaraj, who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1954 to 1963, implemented significant reforms in education and social welfare, including the introduction of the midday meal scheme in schools and the construction of thousands of new schools.
Kamaraj’s role in selecting Prime Ministers Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi earned him the title of “Kingmaker.” His legacy as a leader and statesman committed to the welfare of the poor, education, and national unity continues to inspire generations, particularly in Tamil Nadu.
