Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan honored the memory of those who perished in the tragic Coimbatore serial bombings of 1998. This year marks the 28th anniversary of the devastating incident that claimed 58 lives and wounded over 200 individuals during a period of heightened communal tensions.

In a statement, the Vice President expressed his heartfelt condolences for the innocent lives lost in the Coimbatore blasts, describing it as a somber chapter in the nation’s history. He recounted the harrowing day of February 14, 1998, when a series of explosions rocked Coimbatore during BJP leader L.K. Advani’s rally, leaving a lasting impact on numerous families.

Reflecting on the traumatic events, Vice President Radhakrishnan shared his personal experience of narrowly escaping one of the blasts and the anguish of witnessing the aftermath. He emphasized the enduring memories of fear, sorrow, and insecurity that linger from that tragic period, particularly the efforts to aid the injured and transport the critically wounded to hospitals.

Paying homage to the victims, the Vice President extended his solidarity to the grieving families, acknowledging that their irreplaceable loss should never be forgotten. He urged for a collective commitment to combat terrorism and uphold peace, unity, and national integrity in the face of such atrocities.

In addition to honoring the Coimbatore victims, Vice President Radhakrishnan also remembered the sacrifices of the Pulwama martyrs, saluting the bravery of those who laid down their lives in the terror attack. He emphasized that their supreme sacrifice serves as a perpetual source of inspiration for the nation, motivating efforts to fortify and safeguard India’s security.
