Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled for a two-day visit to Karnataka starting Saturday. He will be part of the 517th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Nadaprabhu Sri Kempegowda in Bengaluru on the first day. The following day, he will participate in the Nasha Mukt Bharat Conclave in Bengaluru, organized as part of the Foundation Day of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking program.
Radhakrishnan recently observed ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ by honoring those who defended democratic and constitutional values during the 1975 Emergency period. This event coincides with the 51st anniversary of the Emergency declaration by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. The Vice President emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional values and building a just and democratic India.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ across Bihar, Haryana, and other regions to remember the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975. The party conducted various programs to highlight the impact of the Emergency on democratic institutions and civil liberties. The 1975 Indian Emergency, lasting from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, was a period of suspended democratic norms and civil liberties, considered a dark chapter in India’s democratic history.
