Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to visit Bhubaneswar for a day in Odisha. The visit includes the launch of the Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission, a key initiative of the state government. This mission aims to expand fishing activities for Odisha fishermen.

During the visit, Vice-President Radhakrishnan will distribute authorization certificates to fishermen for sustainable deep-sea fishing. The initiative will allow fishermen to operate within 200 nautical miles, significantly expanding their fishing zones. This move is expected to boost livelihoods and enhance the blue economy.

The Odisha government highlighted the importance of the mission in empowering fishermen and promoting the growth of the fisheries sector. The initiative also focuses on enhancing income opportunities and strengthening fisheries producer organizations. The program emphasizes transparency, efficiency, and digitization in the authorization process.

The Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission, approved by the State Cabinet, aims to position Odisha as a prominent player in deep-sea and international fishing. The mission will provide support for advanced fishing equipment, operational management, and market connections. It is anticipated to increase fish production, create jobs, raise fishermen’s incomes, and boost marine product exports.
