A video showing the vandalization of a Radha-Krishna idol in Rangapur village, West Bengal, has circulated widely. The footage depicts the shattered idols of Radha-Krishna and five others, including Gaur-Nitai, discarded in a mango orchard. The authenticity of the video remains unverified.
The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, shared the video on social media, alleging that the incident occurred the previous night. Local villagers discovered the desecration during their worship activities. Adhikari criticized the state government for the repeated attacks on Hindu temples and deities under its rule.
Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of negligence towards such incidents, Adhikari emphasized the escalating assaults on Hindu faith due to the lack of strict actions against the perpetrators. He warned that Hindu voters in the upcoming Assembly election would hold the Chief Minister responsible for the situation, drawing parallels with the conditions of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Adhikari has consistently raised concerns about temple vandalism and idol destruction, with the Malda incident being the latest in his efforts. As of now, there has been no response from either the Trinamool Congress or the Malda district administration regarding the matter.
