Actor-turned-politician Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), filed his nomination from the Tiruchy East constituency amidst huge support on Thursday. Despite police efforts to control the crowd, hundreds of fans enthusiastically followed Vijay’s convoy through the city. An incident where a woman fell while running alongside the convoy briefly paused the procession, leading to a tense moment.
Vijay, upon noticing the woman’s fall, promptly stopped his vehicle, personally checked on her well-being, and then continued his journey. The scene caused a temporary disruption in traffic and created an emotionally charged atmosphere. Following this, Vijay submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Muthu Murugesa Pandian, at the Tiruchy East constituency office.
In addition to Tiruchy East, Vijay is also contesting from Perambalur in the upcoming elections. After filing his papers, he paid floral tributes at M.G. Ramachandran’s statue and engaged with the public on governance and welfare issues. Vijay highlighted concerns such as the reported shortage of LPG cylinders, criticizing the governments for their alleged inaction.
Questioning the response to the cylinder shortage, Vijay specifically targeted Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for not addressing the issue effectively. He also voiced worries about law-and-order problems, citing a recent tragic incident, and called for a change in the state’s political landscape. Urging voters to oppose the current administration, Vijay intensified his criticism of the ruling DMK government.
With his dual-constituency participation and energetic campaign, Vijay has injected a new dynamic into the electoral competition in Tamil Nadu.
