Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader and actor Vijay expressed his gratitude to the voters of Tamil Nadu for the historic 85% voter turnout in the recent single-phase Assembly elections. Vijay, in a statement on social media, hailed the massive participation as a significant moment that broke long-held political misconceptions.
The 2026 Assembly elections saw an exceptional increase in voter engagement, marking the highest polling percentage in Tamil Nadu’s electoral history since Independence. The surge was notably fueled by the active participation of youth and women voters across all 234 constituencies.
Vijay emphasized that the 85% voter turnout was unprecedented in Tamil Nadu, describing it as a unique occurrence for the state. He highlighted the festive atmosphere during the elections, with families, including children, turning up at polling stations with enthusiasm akin to temple festivals.
The actor-politician also thanked first-time voters and individuals who traveled from other regions, including abroad, to cast their votes. He commended the public’s democratic spirit, emphasizing the need to respect their engagement in the electoral process.
Acknowledging the grassroots efforts of his party, Vijay praised the dedication of booth agents and administrators who faced challenges during the campaign. He viewed the voters’ actions as a strong response to critics who questioned his party workers’ political acumen.
Looking forward to the election results, the TVK chief expressed optimism about his party’s chances in the three-way competition involving the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and the Opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led National Democratic Alliance. Vijay urged supporters to remain hopeful, stating that victory is on the horizon.
