Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joseph Vijay is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, along with nine ministers, as his party has garnered the backing of 120 MLAs, surpassing the required majority of 118 in the 234-member Assembly.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has given his approval for the inclusion of nine ministers proposed by Vijay in the new cabinet. The ministers scheduled to take the oath alongside Vijay include N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Dr K.G. Arunraj, K.A. Sengottaiyan, P. Venkataramanan, R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Dr T.K. Prabhu, and S. Keerthana.
The swearing-in ceremony is planned to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, with the attendance of various national and regional leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Chennai for the event.
Vijay’s path to leadership follows extensive political discussions post a divided outcome in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Despite TVK emerging as the largest party with 108 seats, the alliance secured the necessary support from Congress, CPI, CPI-M, VCK, and IUML to reach the required 118 seats to form the government.
