Acting on the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s instructions, the ACB unit in Bundi apprehended a Village Development Officer (VDO) named Mukesh Kumar for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000. Mukesh Kumar, currently serving as the Village Development Officer of Gardada Gram Panchayat in Bundi district, was caught red-handed while demanding payment for a water point construction project. The accused had reportedly demanded a bribe amounting to 30% of the project cost for releasing payment to the complainant’s firm, Taru & Company.
A complaint lodged with the ACB stated that the accused had been pressuring the complainant for around Rs 4.50 lakh, a portion of the total project cost, to facilitate payment for the construction work. Following the complaint’s verification, a trap operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Omprakash Meena from ACB Kota Range. The operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Premchand from ACB Bundi, resulted in the accused being caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 as part of the bribe demanded.
During the operation, the accused was apprehended outside his rented residence after attempting to discard the money upon noticing the approaching ACB team. The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar, has been taken into custody for further interrogation and legal procedures. Additional Director General Smita Srivastava and Inspector General S. Parimala are overseeing the ongoing investigation and legal formalities. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act is being filed as the investigation continues.
