In Bihar, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau apprehended Siyaram Rai, the Mukhiya of Gram Panchayat Raj Chakbahauddin, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh. The arrest has sparked discussions in administrative and panchayat circles in Samastipur district. Rai was caught red-handed while accepting cash to revoke a suspension.
Officials revealed that Rai, also the Panchayat Secretary, was caught accepting money from a complainant to reinstate his service-related position. The case unfolded after a written complaint by Abdul Mannan, triggering a confidential verification by the Vigilance Bureau. Following evidence collection, an FIR was lodged in Patna, and a special raid team conducted the operation.
The trap was set near the complainant’s shop, where Rai arrived to collect the bribe. The Vigilance team swiftly apprehended him upon accepting the cash. Rai is now in custody, undergoing interrogation to uncover potential accomplices in the corruption network. Legal proceedings are underway, with Rai expected to appear before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur.
