Ace Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has issued a stern warning about the National Open Ranking Tournament in Gonda, expressing concerns over its fairness. Scheduled from May 12 to 14, the tournament’s venue choice has raised doubts about integrity. Vinesh emphasized that any untoward incident during the event would hold the government and Sports Ministry responsible.
In a video shared on social media, Vinesh highlighted issues with the tournament, questioning the transparency of procedures. She mentioned doubts about the fairness of the weigh-in process and the impartiality of refereeing decisions. Vinesh expressed concerns that the competition’s outcomes may not accurately reflect the hard work of dedicated athletes.
Additionally, Vinesh disclosed being one of the six women wrestlers who filed a sexual harassment complaint against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Despite Brij Bhushan’s removal, Vinesh alleged his continued influence over the federation, with the Sports Ministry remaining passive.
