Around 15 to 20 individuals were detained in Dhandhuka town, Ahmedabad district, following a violent incident triggered by a road accident that resulted in a fatal stabbing and subsequent arson, as per the police. The turmoil began when a motorcycle, carrying Samir and his wife, collided with a local youth from the Bharwad community. Ahmedabad Rural SP Om Prakash Jat mentioned that the situation escalated due to provocative remarks made by Samir during the altercation.
Members of the local community gathered and headed towards Samir’s residence, but he and his family were not home at the time. Rizwan, present at the house, allegedly attacked Dharmesh Gamara from the Bharwad community with a knife, leading to severe leg injuries and his subsequent death at the hospital. Tensions rose in the area post the incident, prompting groups to engage in vandalism and setting fire to shops and tires in various parts of the town, especially in market areas.
The chaos caused panic among residents, resulting in the closure of shops and people staying indoors. Heavy police presence, including senior officers and specialized units, was deployed to the scene to restore order and prevent further violence. Both Samir and Rizwan have been arrested, with 15–20 individuals detained in connection to the violence. Authorities are considering additional FIRs based on the ongoing investigation and evidence collection.
Fire brigade teams from nearby towns were called in to extinguish the fires set in several shops. The body of Dharmesh Gamara has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and security has been heightened in sensitive areas to maintain peace and quell rumors on social media. The situation in Dhandhuka is now reportedly under control, with security forces on standby as investigations progress.
