A violent incident in Ojhaul village of Darbhanga district resulted in a police officer, Md. Mobin, being critically injured and an alleged criminal, Sunil Sahani, dead after a mob attacked him. Md. Mobin, who had returned to his village on leave, sustained a gunshot wound and is in critical condition at a private hospital in Darbhanga. The deceased, Sunil Sahani, was confronted by villagers for damaging decorative lights near an Imambara, leading to a fatal altercation.
Residents alleged that Sunil Sahani, accompanied by associates, damaged the lights early in the morning, triggering objections from villagers. Sub-Inspector Md. Mobin intervened during the dispute, but Sunil Sahani allegedly shot him in the abdomen. The accused was chased, overpowered, and fatally assaulted by the crowd as he tried to escape. Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the mob violence, with recovered evidence including spent cartridges and a blood-stained traditional weapon.
Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police, Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy, visited the village to assess the situation and instructed officers to apprehend others involved in the incident. Heavy police presence has been established in the area as a precaution, with additional security at the post-mortem facility. Raids are being conducted to locate Sunil Sahani’s associates, and the police are actively investigating both the officer’s shooting and the subsequent mob killing.
