The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) has condemned the reported house arrest of its founder and former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahani in Uttar Pradesh. The party’s National Chief Spokesperson, Dev Jyoti, accused the Uttar Pradesh administration of obstructing Sahani’s political activities. Dev Jyoti stated that the government’s actions were an attempt to stifle dissent and hinder Sahani’s engagement with the public.
The VIP spokesperson highlighted that Mukesh Sahani had been vocal about the government’s failures and shortcomings in his public interactions. Dev Jyoti criticized the restrictions imposed on Sahani, alleging that they were aimed at preventing him from connecting with the people. He described the reported incident as an assault on democracy and a disrespect to the Constitution drafted by B. R. Ambedkar.
Dev Jyoti further argued that restricting an opposition leader from participating in a public event under the pretext of law and order was an attack on democratic values. He emphasized that the government’s reliance on police measures over political discourse to handle opposition was concerning. The VIP spokesperson affirmed that the party would legally challenge the situation and continue its democratic struggle against authoritarianism and political persecution.
Mukesh Sahani was reportedly confined to his residence on June 29, preventing him from traveling to Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. In response, Sahani criticized the government’s actions, stating that limiting the movement of an elected representative was an affront to democracy. He expressed disappointment over the government’s reluctance to engage in democratic dialogue and labeled the situation as reminiscent of an undeclared Emergency. The allegations made by Sahani and the VIP are part of their political stance.
