India’s renowned cricketer Virat Kohli expressed sorrow at the demise of his former India Under-19 teammate, Amanpreet Singh Gill, who passed away at 36 in Chandigarh. Kohli, on social media, paid tribute to Gill, with whom he shared the dressing room during their early cricketing days. Gill, a right-arm medium pacer, played for Punjab in first-class matches and was part of Kings XI Punjab in the IPL’s first season.
Gill, who represented India in youth ODIs and a three-day youth Test in 2007, missed selection for the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning squad led by Kohli. The Punjab Cricket Association mourned his loss, acknowledging his contributions to Punjab cricket. Gill’s cremation is set to take place at the Manimajra Cremation Ground in Chandigarh.
Former Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh also expressed grief over Gill’s untimely passing. Dhawan offered condolences, emphasizing Gill’s young age, while Yuvraj remembered him as a dedicated and quiet cricketer who cherished the game. Both cricketers extended sympathies to Gill’s family and friends during this challenging time.
