Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed concern over Punjab Kings facing immense pressure in their upcoming IPL 2026 game against Lucknow Super Giants. Punjab, after a strong start to the season followed by a significant dip in form, must secure a victory to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Sehwag emphasized the critical nature of the match, stating that Punjab Kings cannot afford to lose to Lucknow. He highlighted the team’s missed opportunities in securing a playoff spot due to inconsistent performances with both bat and ball. The former opener pointed out that Punjab’s recent struggles were a result of batting failures at crucial junctures and a lack of bowling discipline.
Shifting focus to the change in venue from Dharamshala to Lucknow, Sehwag suggested that the new conditions might provide Punjab Kings with a fresh start. He noted that the challenging conditions in Dharamshala did not suit the team well, and a move to Lucknow could potentially benefit them. Sehwag also warned that despite Lucknow Super Giants being out of contention, their fearless approach could pose a significant threat to Punjab.
Sehwag identified Mitchell Marsh as a key threat to Punjab’s bowling attack, particularly in the powerplay overs. He highlighted Punjab’s struggle in finding a reliable wicket-taker in the middle overs, which has been a recurring weakness for the team. Sehwag expressed hope that Punjab could bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive by bringing their best performance in all aspects of the game.
