Hundreds of people lined up at Washington’s Dupont Circle for the annual Mango Festival to savor Indian mango varieties. Organized by the Embassy of India in Washington, the event showcased popular types like Alphonso, Kesar, and Dasheri. Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra highlighted the festival’s growth and its appeal as an annual event.
Visitors not only enjoyed the mangoes but also indulged in Indian cuisine offerings at the festival. Ambassador Kwatra noted the joy and satisfaction among attendees as they relished Indian mangoes and other delicacies. Crystal, a festival attendee, praised the Rajapuri mango for its unique sweetness and softness, expressing her delight.
The festival evoked memories of India for many visitors, with David Woodhead remarking on the rich flavor of the mangoes. Participants expressed a desire for wider availability of Indian mango varieties in the US market. Indian mangoes, known for their distinct flavors, offer a unique taste experience compared to commonly found varieties.
Exporter Ravi Soni revealed plans to expand the range of mango varieties offered, aiming for a more extensive selection in the coming year. India, as the largest mango producer globally, grows numerous varieties, with premium types like Alphonso and Kesar enjoying popularity. The annual Mango Festival in Washington aims to boost awareness of Indian produce and enhance agricultural trade ties between India and the US.
