Preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Jharkhand are moving forward swiftly. Chief Electoral Officer, K. Ravi Kumar, recently chaired a review meeting with Deputy Electoral Officers from all districts, emphasizing the need to complete pre-SIR processes promptly. The main goal is to ensure an error-free and transparent electoral roll that includes all eligible citizens.
During the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer urged officials to speed up the process of affixing stickers with Booth Level Officer (BLO) details on voters’ residences. These stickers will display the BLO’s name, mobile number, and house number, facilitating direct communication with voters. This initiative is part of the door-to-door verification campaign where BLOs are visiting households to collect enumeration forms.
In addition, voters whose information was not transferred from the previous revision list to the current one can utilize the “Book a Call” feature on the Election Commission’s ECINet platform to contact their BLO. This measure aims to simplify the process of adding or rectifying names in the electoral roll. Officials were also tasked with compiling lists of absent, relocated, deceased, and duplicate voters at all polling stations. Special attention was given to incorporating voters from old addresses of displaced or demolished homes into the relocated category.
Furthermore, officials were instructed to maintain the pre-assigned house numbers during house mapping and assign notional numbers only when necessary. Earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer engaged with representatives of recognized political parties to provide detailed insights into the SIR process and requested their cooperation. Political parties were urged to expedite the appointment and training of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to enhance coordination with BLOs at the grassroots level.
The Election Commission clarified that the lists of absent, relocated, deceased, and duplicate voters will be disclosed to the public post-verification by political party agents through the BLOs. This measure aims to eliminate fraudulent voters and enhance the reliability of the electoral roll.
