Several water conservation and irrigation projects worth crores of rupees are underway in villages across Rajasthan’s Ajmer district as part of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana’ (PMKSY). These initiatives, supported by the Central government, have significantly enhanced water availability in rural areas, focusing on rainwater conservation and groundwater recharge.
Shalabh Tandon, the District Nodal Officer for the Vande Ganga Water Conservation Campaign, highlighted the development of various water-related infrastructure projects in Tikawada village. These projects include water recharge shafts, tanks, conservation structures, and rainwater harvesting facilities, all aimed at storing rainwater and boosting groundwater levels.
The ongoing second phase of the PMKSY involves a substantial budget and aims to ensure water access for every farm, emphasizing efficient water resource management. Additionally, culverts have been constructed in highway areas to enhance water drainage and conservation, facilitating better utilization of rainwater and supporting groundwater replenishment.
The PMKSY projects have brought significant relief to rural communities in Ajmer, with farmers benefiting from improved irrigation facilities and enhanced water security for future needs. The scheme aligns with the Union government’s vision of providing “Water to Every Field” and achieving “Per Drop More Crop” on the ground.
