The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in 16 districts of Bihar. Severe weather conditions, including intense thunderstorms, lightning strikes, heavy rainfall, and strong winds with gusts of 50–60 km/h, are expected over the next 24 hours in districts like Araria, Begusarai, Darbhanga, and others. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines from the Disaster Management Department.
A sudden change in weather hit Bihar, bringing relief from the heat but also causing damage. Muzaffarpur and Vaishali experienced rain and gusty winds, while hailstorms affected various areas. The IMD had earlier issued ‘Yellow’ and ‘Orange’ alerts, cautioning residents to be careful amidst the changing weather patterns.
Residents are urged to seek shelter in sturdy buildings, avoid open areas during storms, and farmers are advised to stay out of fields until conditions improve. Lightning strikes and strong winds are highlighted as significant risks, emphasizing the need for precautionary measures to prevent accidents. The weather shift led to a noticeable temperature drop, offering respite from the upcoming summer heat.
In Vaishali’s Goraul block, intense storms and hailstones caused damage to crops, worrying farmers about potential losses. Similar weather conditions, including hailstorms, were reported in other districts like West Champaran. The sudden weather changes underscore the importance of staying alert and taking necessary safety precautions during such extreme conditions.
