Werder Bremen faced a setback as Hoffenheim secured a 2-0 victory, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the new year despite playing with 10 men. The match showcased contrasting trajectories, with Bremen struggling and Hoffenheim unbeaten in 2026. Bremen, dealing with defensive changes, started energetically but missed early chances.

Hoffenheim gradually took control but found it challenging to break through Bremen’s defense initially. A crucial moment came when Alexander Prass scored a remarkable long-range goal just before halftime. Hoffenheim’s task toughened after Wouter Burger received a red card, but they responded effectively with Grischa Promel’s well-taken goal.

Christian Ilzer’s tactical adjustments made Hoffenheim solid defensively, frustrating Bremen’s attempts to score. Despite Bremen’s efforts, they failed to convert opportunities, with Hoffenheim sealing the win with a composed performance. Hoffenheim’s victory places them third in the Bundesliga, enhancing their Champions League qualification prospects, while Bremen sits 15th, barely above the relegation zone.

In another rescheduled match, St Pauli held RB Leipzig to a 1-1 draw, intensifying the relegation battle.
