West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a significant move to eliminate political interference in the state’s recruitment system. The state will now follow the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) model and appoint a senior bureaucrat, Dushyant Nariala, as the Chairman of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC). Nariala, a 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will take on this role in addition to his current position as the Principal Resident Commissioner of the West Bengal government in New Delhi.
This decision reflects the government’s commitment to transparency in the recruitment process. Chief Minister Adhikari emphasized the importance of reforming recruitment commissions to ensure impartiality and merit-based selections, free from political influence. The move aims to uphold the rights of qualified job seekers and eradicate past instances of corruption and favoritism in recruitment procedures.
The Chief Minister reiterated that merit and qualifications will now be the sole criteria for job appointments in West Bengal. He highlighted the government’s dedication to creating a fair and equitable system that prioritizes talented individuals and provides opportunities for the youth to secure employment based on their abilities.
