Tahura Khatun, the first athlete from West Bengal to qualify for the World U20 Athletics Championships in the USA, has set her sights on winning gold in the Mixed 4×400 meters relay. Her ultimate dream, however, is to become an Olympic champion. Under the guidance of her coaches at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Eastern Centre, Tahura has been preparing diligently for the upcoming championships.
Having clinched gold in the Women’s 4x400m relay at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships, Tahura secured her spot at the world meet. She expressed her determination to perform well at the World U20 event, following her recent success at the state meet where she set a new record. Hailing from a remote village in South 24 Parganas district, Tahura’s journey from playing football and cricket to excelling in athletics has been supported by her coaches and the facilities at SAI.
Training at SAI for the past five years has transformed Tahura’s life, enabling her to focus on her athletic career. Grateful for the guidance and support she has received, Tahura hopes her achievements will inspire more youth in West Bengal to pursue athletics. Despite facing initial financial challenges, Tahura’s dedication and hard work have propelled her towards success, with her coaches playing a pivotal role in her development.
