West Bengal’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that an attack on Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra in North 24 Parganas district was orchestrated by his own associates to secure security cover. During a visit to the Kamarhati constituency, protesters reportedly pelted eggs and damaged Mitra’s car, leading him to exit the area. Mitra, who was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident, accused “BJP-backed miscreants” for the disruptions.
Bengal Minister Arjun Singh suggested that Mitra arranged the attack on his car to enhance his security measures. He mentioned, “Anwar is the frontman of Madan Mitra, who also has Shahbaz in front. He (Mitra) did everything to increase his security,” while addressing reporters. BJP MLA Pawan Singh urged people to avoid violence and emphasized the need to prevent a recurrence of past events during the Trinamool Congress rule.
Singh highlighted that some individuals, who faced difficulties under the previous government, are expressing their frustrations now. He emphasized that BJP workers should seek police assistance if they have encountered any injustices in the past, rather than taking matters into their own hands. Refuting Mitra’s claims of attempted murder, Singh stated, “He will make some or the other allegations, there’s no truth in all this.”
The BJP MLA also commented on the situation, suggesting that if there were genuine threats to Mitra’s life, he would not be forewarned. Singh reiterated that the current outbursts of anger towards Trinamool leaders are a result of past grievances and mistreatment. CPI-M leader Hannan Mollah echoed similar sentiments, attributing the attacks on Trinamool leaders to a history of “politics of hatred and violence” during their governance.
Mollah criticized the Trinamool’s 15-year rule, alleging widespread violence, corruption, and exploitation of resources. Despite the grievances, Mollah emphasized the importance of due process and condemned any form of physical assault, even against those accused of crimes. He stressed that individuals should face legal proceedings rather than vigilante justice.
