West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya, during a party meeting, urged Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari to refrain from publicly explaining his decision to join the BJP before the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.
Adhikari, in the meeting, clarified that he joined the BJP in 2021 voluntarily, leaving his positions in state government departments and cooperative banks upon invitations from BJP leaders at the central and state levels.
Bhattacharya, after Adhikari’s speech, advised him not to make further public statements regarding his BJP joining background in the future, emphasizing that Adhikari is already an integral part of the party.
Sources indicated that Bhattacharya’s message aimed to convey that Adhikari’s loyalty to the BJP does not require public validation, highlighting his equal standing with other long-standing party members.
Bhattacharya also praised leaders like Adhikari for their role in expanding the BJP in West Bengal, emphasizing unity within the party over distinctions between ‘old BJP’ and ‘new BJP.’
