West Bengal BJP President, Samik Bhattacharya, emphasized the presence of Bangladeshi infiltrators, Rohingyas, and fake voters in the state’s electoral list. He stated that intruders would be identified, removed, and deported. Bhattacharya, along with Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent visit to Delhi, labeling it as a mere “drama” for attention.
Majumdar described Banerjee’s actions during her Delhi visit as staged for cameras, with little substance behind the scenes. He highlighted her failed attempts to draw attention to herself through orchestrated events. The BJP leaders questioned Banerjee’s allegations regarding deaths related to the SIR exercise and demanded transparency on the matter.
Bhattacharya pointed out the uproar in West Bengal over the SIR process compared to other states. He recalled Banerjee’s past demand for voter identity cards and her current opposition to the SIR exercise. The BJP leaders stressed the need for a coordinated approach to tackle illegal infiltration, citing challenges along the porous Bangladesh border.
The BJP leaders raised concerns about intimidation of Booth Level Officers (BLO) and reported incidents of violence against party workers. They highlighted instances of threats and attacks on BLOs and party members, alleging a systematic effort to obstruct their participation in the electoral process. Bhattacharya also mentioned the violence faced by BJP workers in recent years, including casualties during the 2021 Assembly elections.
