West Bengal CID officials questioned Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and party MLA Kunal Ghosh face to face regarding the Assembly signature mismatch case. After hours of questioning, Ghosh stated his cooperation with the investigation, revealing the face-to-face questioning with Banerjee by CID officials. Ghosh, upon leaving the CID headquarters, did not provide further comments and headed to Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat.
Despite Ghosh’s departure, Abhishek Banerjee remained at Bhabani Bhawan for continued questioning by CID officials. Banerjee, a Lok Sabha member, had been directed by the Calcutta High Court to assist the state police’s intelligence department in the case, with a two-week immunity from coercive action by CID. He arrived at the CID office before the scheduled time, following a previous round of questioning on Thursday.
On Monday, Abhishek Banerjee is set to be interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate at its Salt Lake office in connection with a cash-for-school-job case. The ED had issued a notice to him on June 3. Additionally, he is expected to appear at the CID headquarters on Tuesday for questioning related to allegations of inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the state’s Assembly polls.
