West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, a journalist-turned-politician, tabled 28 crucial Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports on income and expenditure from the state exchequer between 2021 and 2025, during the Trinamool Congress government’s tenure. Dasgupta highlighted the constitutional significance of these reports and criticized the previous government for not presenting them earlier.

After presenting the reports, Dasgupta emphasized the importance of tabling such reports in the Legislative Assembly and expressed surprise at the delay in doing so. The reports covered various areas such as Panchayati Raj institutions, public health infrastructure, land management, and education campaigns, shedding light on the state’s financial challenges.

Dasgupta pointed out that the accumulated debt burden of over Rs 8,00,000 crore in the state was revealed through these reports. He announced plans for detailed discussions in the House on the findings and proposed a special session dedicated to analyzing the CAG reports in depth. Additionally, he criticized the previous government for misleading information on the MSME sector’s development in the state.
