The West Bengal government initiated the process of transferring land to the BSF for erecting fencing along the unfenced borders with Bangladesh. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari confirmed the official handover of 27 kilometers of land to the BSF at the state secretariat. He mentioned that the entire land required for this purpose would be handed over within the next two weeks.
Since assuming office, the new government has been actively coordinating with the Border Security Force and state officials. Chief Minister Adhikari highlighted that the previous state government, led by Mamata Banerjee, had refrained from handing over land to the BSF due to political reasons. He emphasized the need to address issues related to illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, citing concerns over various criminal activities involving them.
Chief Minister Adhikari also announced a new system where illegal infiltrators arrested by the state police would be promptly transferred to the Border Security Force. However, individuals involved in the Citizenship Amendment Act process would not be subject to this system. The move aims to enhance border security and curb anti-social activities linked to illegal infiltration.
