The West Bengal government has commenced the disbursement of dearness allowance (DA) relief to retired state government employees, extending the coverage to family members in the event of the retiree’s demise. The DA relief period spans from 2008 to 2015, as per an official notification from the state secretariat Nabanna.
In cases of a state government employee or pensioner’s passing, their nominated individual or legal heirs are eligible for the DA relief payment, as outlined in the notification. To streamline the process and address complications arising from delayed disbursements, new guidelines have been introduced involving the nominated or legal heirs, as clarified by a state government official.
For instances involving DA relief arrears, if the nominee’s details are on record with the relevant department, the payment will be directed to them. If the current family pensioner and the nominee coincide, the funds will be transferred directly to their account. However, in the absence of nominee information, the legal heirs must furnish the requisite documents for verification and subsequent payment processing.
Under the current administration led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, following the tenure of Mamata Banerjee, the government has taken proactive measures, starting with the disbursement of DA relief to retired employees, pensioners, and their legal or nominated heirs.
