West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose addressed concerns about rising violence and corruption in the state, emphasizing their presence within university campuses as well. Speaking at Jadavpur University’s 68th annual convocation, where he serves as Chancellor, Governor Ananda Bose stressed that societal issues are impacting educational institutions in West Bengal.
Governor Ananda Bose underscored the need for a comprehensive approach to address the challenges, stating that merely enforcing strict rules within educational settings is insufficient. He emphasized the importance of tackling violence and corruption, noting that these issues reflect broader societal trends that affect the education system.
Highlighting the impact of administrative irregularities on the education sector, Governor Ananda Bose emphasized the necessity of transparency and adherence to legal norms in governing universities. He also announced plans for the Raj Bhavan to present awards at future convocations, with a total of seven awards to be given to various recipients, each valued at 25,000 rupees.
Amid the convocation ceremony at Jadavpur University, protests by the Students Federation of India (SFI) were reported, with demands for elections to the Internal Complaints Committee and improvements in infrastructure and security. Governor Ananda Bose acknowledged the students’ right to protest, welcoming dialogue and stating that the Raj Bhavan is open to engagement with students.
