The West Bengal government has reassigned duties to 19 IPS officers who were relieved from their positions by the Election Commission. These officers have now been allocated new roles, as confirmed by a senior official at the state secretariat, Nabanna. The directive issued by the state government prohibits the reinstatement of these officers to any posts related to the Assembly elections, in compliance with the EC’s stipulation.

Indira Mukherjee, formerly the Deputy Commissioner (Central) of Kolkata Police, has been moved to the position of Special Superintendent (SS) within the State Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Rajiv Mishra, who was removed from the role of Additional Director General (ADG) South Bengal, has been reassigned as ADG (Reform and Coordination). Praveen Kumar Tripathi, the former Police Commissioner of Barrackpore, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) of the State Police’s Special Task Force (STF).

Sukesh Kumar Jain, who was removed as IG (North Bengal), has been designated as IG of the State Police’s Intelligence Bureau (IB). Akash Magharia, the former Police Commissioner of Howrah, and Koteswara Rao, the former Police Commissioner of Chandannagar, have both been named Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) in the IB.

Furthermore, six officers who were removed have been appointed as Special Superintendents in the IB. This group includes Joby Thomas, the ousted SP of Islampur; Abhijit Banerjee, the former SP of Malda; Amandeep, the former SP of Birbhum; Kamnashis Sen, the former SP of Hooghly (Rural); Dhritiman Sarkar, the former SP of Murshidabad Police District; and Hossain Mehdi Rahman, the former SP of Jangipur Police District.
