The West Bengal health department is investigating a police complaint against Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member regarding the ‘Sebaashray’ community healthcare initiative at Diamond Harbour. A woman alleged that her right limb had to be amputated due to incorrect treatment at the camp. The state health department has initiated a parallel probe following the complaint filed by Malati Biswas at Rabindra Nagar Police Station.
Officials at Swasthya Bhavan, the state health department headquarters, will meet the affected woman and her family members to review documents and take necessary action. The police at Rabindra Nagar Police Station have also launched an investigation based on Biswas’ complaint. The complaint stated that the woman’s knee condition worsened after treatment at the ‘Sebaashray’ camp, leading to amputation.
The woman claimed that after visiting the camp with knee pain, she was given medication that worsened her condition. Subsequently, she was referred to MR Bangur Hospital and later to National Medical College & Hospital. Despite seeking an explanation from ‘Sebaashray’ authorities, she received no response. Since the change in government in West Bengal, there have been 17 complaints against ‘Sebaashray,’ including allegations of medical negligence and unauthorized operations.
