West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh criticized a section of the state police for granting bail to Prashant Barman, the former BDO of Raiganj Block, accused in the abduction-murder of gold merchant Swapan Kamilya. Barman, who had been absconding, obtained bail as investigating officers failed to provide necessary documents to the court.
Barman faced charges related to drunk driving and the abduction-murder case, presented before a district court in North 24 Parganas district. Despite a delay in document submission, he was granted bail in the drunk-driving case on a personal bond of Rs 1,000.
Minister Ghosh expressed disappointment with the police, highlighting the unchanged nature of a section of the state police. He questioned the delay in arresting individuals like Barman and criticized the police for their handling of the situation.
Barman, associated with the previous ruling party, Trinamool Congress, was arrested in New Town after a dramatic incident involving a two-wheeler rider. His heavily intoxicated state led to a confrontation with locals, resulting in his detention and subsequent arrest by the police.
