The West Bengal government has informed the Election Commission of India that it can provide 8,505 Group-B officers for the Special Intensive Revision of the voter list in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to argue the case in the Supreme Court, similar to her previous appearance. The state government has communicated the number of officers available for the revision to the Commission ahead of the upcoming hearing.
Last week, Mamata Banerjee presented the case in the Supreme Court, where it was highlighted that the state had not supplied enough Group-B officers for the revision work, leading to the need for officers from other states. The court then instructed the state government to provide a list of officers, which has now been shared with the Commission.
During the previous hearing, Mamata Banerjee raised concerns about voters being summoned for SIR-related hearings due to minor errors in their names or surnames, causing inconvenience to the public. The court emphasized the importance of not removing names from the voter list due to minor errors and requested officers proficient in Bengali to address language and spelling issues.
