The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) disclosed their 30-member shooting team for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The shooting events are scheduled from September 17 to October 3, 2026, at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Range. The final team comprises 15 men and 15 women who met the stringent qualification standards set by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
After a meticulous selection process, the Committee chose athletes capable of competing in multiple disciplines to enhance India’s chances in individual and team events. Notable double starters in the team include Vidarsa K. Vinod, Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Manu Bhaker, and Esha Singh. The squad was carefully crafted to balance current form, international results, team composition, and medal prospects.
NRAI President Kalikesh Singh Deo expressed the challenges in selecting the team due to the exceptional talent pool in Indian shooting. With a cap of 30 athletes for 36 event slots, the Selection Committee ensured a strong representation for India across disciplines. The President expressed confidence in the team’s ability to excel at the Asian Games and bring pride to the nation.
India’s shooters have been performing well on the global stage, showcasing the country’s strength in rifle, pistol, and shotgun events. Recent successes include podium finishes at the ISSF World Cup, with Esha Singh’s gold medal and world record in the women’s 25m pistol event standing out. The team’s preparation for the Asian Games is further bolstered by the consistent performances of athletes like Suruchi Singh and Esha.
The final contingent consists of 12 shotgun shooters and 18 rifle/pistol shooters, with a mix of experienced and emerging talents ready to compete at the highest level.
