The West Bengal Police discovered 3 kg of gold jewelry, valued at Rs 4 crore, at the residence of Nadia Zilla Parishad member Tina Bhowmik Saha in Nadia district. Tina is known to be a close associate of influential Trinamool Congress leader Sabyasachi Dutta. Acting on information provided by an arrested ex-mayor of Bidhannagar, the police conducted a search at Tina Bhowmik Saha’s residence, leading to the recovery of the gold.
The police revealed that the gold was found during an overnight search at Tina Bhowmik Saha’s residence in Tehatta. Earlier this month, Sabyasachi Dutta, a former mayor and Trinamool leader, was arrested by Bidhannagar South police on charges of extortion and illegal assets. Investigators suspect that Sabyasachi accumulated the gold through extortion and the use of black money.
Following leads from Sabyasachi’s interrogation, the police searched Tina Bhowmik Saha’s house in Tehatta, where about 3 kg of gold jewelry was seized. The market value of the confiscated gold is estimated to be over Rs 4.39 crores. Authorities are currently questioning Tina Bhowmik Saha about how she came to possess such a significant amount of gold jewelry, but no further details have been disclosed regarding the ongoing investigation.
