The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the West Bengal Police has located and retrieved the second motorcycle involved in the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to Suvednu Adhikari. The crime occurred on the night of May 6 in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas. Initially, it was believed that Rath was followed by one motorcycle, but insiders revealed that his vehicle was shadowed by two motorcycles.
While one motorcycle was found near the scene of the assassination at Doharia crossing in Madhyamgram, the second motorcycle was traced near a rail-gate at Barasat, also in North 24 Parganas. The police had earlier recovered the four-wheeler that blocked Rath’s vehicle, allowing the assailants on motorcycles to shoot him at close range, resulting in his death.
Despite these developments, no arrests have been made by the investigating officials. The murder took place around 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday as Rath was returning home. The driver of his vehicle, Buddhadeb Bera, was also injured and is receiving treatment at a Kolkata hospital.
Investigations revealed that the number plates of the vehicles used in the crime were fake. The police suspect that the number plate of the second motorcycle, recovered on Friday, may also be fake. Sources in the state police suggest that the assassination was meticulously planned, indicating prior surveillance of Rath’s movements.
The manner in which the assailant approached Rath’s vehicle, fired multiple rounds at close range, and quickly fled the scene points to a professional sharpshooter. The operation seemed well-coordinated and premeditated, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation into the murder.
