On the 125th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed that a chapter on Mukherjee’s life will now be part of the school curriculum. Adhikari made this announcement at an event held at the Mitra Institution to commemorate Mukherjee’s birth anniversary.
“The school syllabus must highlight Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s contributions. I have urged the state’s Education Ministers and department officials to consider this inclusion. The final decision will be made by the upcoming Syllabus Committee,” stated the Chief Minister.
In a first, the birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was celebrated at Nabanna, the state secretariat, with state government employees paying respects to his statue despite it being a public holiday. The state government undertook various initiatives this year to honor Mukherjee, including laying the foundation stone for a 125-foot statue at an Eco Park in New Town, Kolkata.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with other dignitaries, participated in the ceremony, where he laid the foundation stone for the statue. Shah’s visit to Kolkata included a direct trip to the Eco Park from the airport.
