The West Bengal government plans to modernize 51 Industrial Training Institute (ITI) colleges by adopting a privatization model. Higher and Technical Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay revealed this decision during a seminar organized by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Chattopadhyay stated that these state-run ITI colleges will be transferred to private commercial organizations to enhance their infrastructure through significant capital investment. The goal is to elevate the standards of technical education in the state and revamp ITI colleges by attracting capital from the private sector.
Emphasizing collaboration with major industrial groups, Chattopadhyay mentioned that West Bengal will engage in joint ventures with leading corporate entities to operate these ITI colleges. He urged corporate houses and chambers of commerce to participate in the state government’s initiative for modernizing technical education through private funding.
The minister also highlighted his commitment to purging corruption from the education system and elevating higher education standards in West Bengal. He expressed his intention to enforce punctuality in attendance at higher education institutions as part of his agenda as the Higher and Technical Education Minister.
