West Bengal’s Jagannath temple in Digha, East Midnapore district, will now be known as ‘Shri Sri Jagannath Cultural Centre’, as announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The decision came after BJP MP Sambit Patra delivered a letter from Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, suggesting the removal of the term ‘Dham’ from the temple’s name.

Adhikari stated that the cabinet has approved this change, with HIDCO tenders and government funds already in place. The temple will now be referred to as the Shri Jagannath Dev Temple, adhering to the traditional culture and scriptures of Jagannath Dev worship.

The Digha Jagannath Temple Trustee and Chief Priest, Radharman Das, expressed gratitude for the decision, welcoming the temple’s new name. Adhikari emphasized the importance of respecting tradition and cultural heritage, highlighting the significance of maintaining the sanctity of religious structures.
