Young batters Ackeem Auguste and Jewel Andrew, along with all-rounder Shamar Springer, have been included in the West Indies’ T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka in Jamaica. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph will be rested for workload management purposes.
Shamar Joseph, who had to return home before the third ODI against Sri Lanka due to personal reasons, is expected to rejoin the squad on June 9. The squad has seen three changes from the T20 World Cup, with the inclusion of promising talents Auguste, Andrew, and Springer.
The West Indies Cricket Board stated that Alzarri Joseph was not considered for selection to manage his workload effectively. The upcoming series is crucial for the team’s long-term preparations for the 2028 T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Head Coach Daren Sammy expressed his excitement for the series, emphasizing the opportunity for the players to entertain home fans with an exciting brand of cricket. The series will kick off in Jamaica on June 11, followed by two Tests in Antigua, after Sri Lanka claimed a 1-0 victory in the ODI series.
