Western Maharashtra, particularly the Satara district, is experiencing intense rainfall, causing significant disruptions. Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in the region, has witnessed a record-breaking 513 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours, marking one of the highest single-day rainfalls in the area’s history. The heavy downpour has led to waterlogging, landslides, road damages, power outages, and communication disruptions, severely impacting normal life in the region.
The relentless rain has resulted in cracked roads, uprooted trees, and blocked transport routes due to mudslides and boulders collapsing onto rural roads. The local administration has issued high alerts, urging residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. While the natural beauty of waterfalls and lakes overflows, the torrential rain has created a crisis situation for the residents, with officials warning of a prolonged period for the situation to normalize.
In Atit village, a cloudburst-like scenario caused flash floods, damaging properties and crops. The floodwaters breached local areas, including a temple, turning streets into rivers. Affected villagers are seeking official damage assessments and financial aid to recover from the losses. Meanwhile, heavy rains persist in various parts of Maharashtra, prompting school closures in Mumbai after significant rainfall. The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority has reported severe waterlogging, river swelling, and weather-related incidents across the state.
