Western Rajasthan, amidst a severe heatwave, experienced thunderstorms and light rain on Monday due to an active Western Disturbance, as confirmed by the Meteorological Department. Areas like Churu, Alwar, Deeg, Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, and Hanumangarh were particularly affected, with sudden weather changes and intermittent rainfall bringing relief from the scorching heat.
Residents welcomed the rainfall that lasted nearly an hour, providing respite from the prolonged heatwave. The Meteorological Department forecasts isolated dust storms and light rainfall in parts of the state over the next days, along with a rise in temperatures by 2-3 degrees. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in western Rajasthan, with the likelihood of warm nights in the upcoming days.
Barmer recorded the hottest day of the season, reaching 46.8 degrees Celsius, while other cities like Jaisalmer, Phalodi, and Jodhpur also faced intense heatwave conditions. The impact was most severe in certain districts, leading to deserted streets and markets resembling a curfew-like situation. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for various districts, with Jodhpur experiencing extreme heat and Ajmer expecting a further temperature increase.
The Western Disturbance’s activation in Rajasthan has prompted alerts for strong winds, dust storms, and light rainfall in certain divisions. While some areas may witness relief from the heat, others like Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions are likely to continue facing heatwave conditions. With temperatures rising and dry weather persisting in some districts, residents are advised to stay cautious and prepared for possible weather changes.
