A woman and her lover, identified as Meenu Devi and Rohit Sah, have been apprehended from Ratanpur village in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district for the killing of her 15-year-old son, as per the police. The duo was taken into custody and subsequently remanded to judicial custody after appearing in court. The investigation into the suspicious death of the teenager, Ayush, uncovered Meenu Devi’s illicit relationship with Sah, who happens to be her nephew.
Preliminary findings indicated that on February 7, while Meenu Devi’s husband was away for work, Rohit Sah visited their residence. Ayush caught them in a compromising situation, prompting him to raise an alarm. To prevent him from disclosing the incident to family and villagers, the pair subdued the teenager and strangled him with a rope. Following the murder, they disposed of the body near a pond behind the house in an effort to stage it as an accidental death or disappearance.
Upon Hemant Sah’s return, Meenu Devi concocted a tale, asserting that Ayush had gone out to use the restroom and had not returned. Concerned by his absence, family members and locals initiated a search and eventually discovered the boy unconscious near the pond. Despite being rushed to medical facilities, Ayush was pronounced dead upon arrival at Sonajori Hospital in Pakur.
As the family prepared for the funeral, authorities were notified of the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Police intervened, took possession of the body, and arranged for a post-mortem examination. A murder case was filed based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father. Through a combination of circumstantial evidence and interrogation, law enforcement reconstructed the sequence of events, with the woman’s inconsistent statements casting doubt and ultimately exposing the crime.
