In a significant anti-narcotics operation, a 28-year-old woman was apprehended at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle over 11 kg of hydroponic weed into the country. The Customs Department officials detected the contraband, valued at Rs 11.82 crore in the global market, concealed in her luggage after she arrived from Bangkok.
The woman, identified as a relationship manager at a private firm, aroused suspicion during routine surveillance and passenger profiling. Upon examination, authorities discovered 12 vacuum-sealed plastic packets containing high-grade cannabis inside her trolley bag. A total of 11.824 kg of the narcotic substance was seized, leading to her arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Following the recovery, the accused was presented before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. This interception forms part of a series of recent Customs operations targeting the prevention of international drug trafficking through Indian airports. Notably, earlier incidents at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport also saw successful seizures of suspected hydroponic weed.
