The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police apprehended a woman in Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas district, with a significant stash of illegal firearms and ammunition. Identified as Puja Biswas from Habra Municipality, she was found in possession of six firearms, including four 7 mm and two 9 mm pistols, along with 12 magazines and 200 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, authorities seized Rs 12,000 in cash and two mobile phones from her.
Puja Biswas is scheduled to appear in court later today, where the public prosecutor will request her police custody. CID officials suspect her involvement in a large-scale arms smuggling operation, potentially linked to Munger, Bihar. Currently, she is being interrogated to uncover details about her accomplices in the racket, as stated by a state police officer.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of CID officers and Ashoknagar Police intercepted the woman’s vehicle and discovered the illicit firearms, ammunition, cash, and mobile phones in her possession. The operation took place on Naihati Ashoknagar Road at intersection number 8. Notably, a train ticket to Jamalpur, Bihar, was also found with her, raising suspicions of her ties to arms trafficking networks originating from Munger, Bihar.
Initial findings suggest that Puja Biswas entered West Bengal by train from Bihar, intending to travel to Habra. However, law enforcement intervened before she reached her destination. Investigators believe the firearms were transported from Bihar to West Bengal for distribution in the local underground market. The ongoing interrogation aims to identify potential buyers for the arms and ammunition she was carrying.
