The condition of Gajula Soumya, a woman constable from the excise department, is critical after a car belonging to a ganja smuggling gang ran over her in Telangana’s Nizamabad district. Soumya, aged 23, sustained severe injuries during a vehicle check near Madhavnagar village when a car struck her on duty. The incident occurred as a special excise team stopped a Swift car, leading to the driver hitting Soumya while attempting to escape.
Soumya has been shifted to Hyderabad for advanced medical treatment after being admitted to a hospital. Doctors had to remove one kidney due to internal injuries caused by the accident. The accused individuals, who were transporting 2.5 kg of ganja from Nirmal district to Nizamabad, were apprehended by the police. The Department of Prohibition and Excise has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
The driver and one suspect have been arrested, while a search is ongoing for the other two individuals involved in the incident. The arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody after a case of attempted murder was filed against them. Meanwhile, senior officials from the excise department have met with Soumya’s family to provide necessary support and assistance during this challenging time.
