A tragic incident occurred at a hill temple in southern Tamil Nadu when a 24-year-old woman, Anitha, fell to her death while trying to escape a troop of monkeys. Anitha, who had recently married Suresh, lost her footing near the hilltop shrine after the monkeys surrounded her.
The couple, who had visited the Kalugasalamoorthy temple at Kazhugumalai, were feeding fruits to the monkeys when the animals gathered around them suddenly. Startled by their movement, Anitha panicked and fell off the hill, sustaining fatal injuries.
The husband, Suresh, witnessed the heartbreaking event as Anitha tragically passed away on impact. Despite efforts by onlookers, she could not be saved, and her body was recovered by authorities after a rescue operation.
Videos shared on social media captured the emotional scene as Suresh mourned beside his wife’s lifeless body at the temple premises. The police are investigating the incident, attributing the tragedy to Anitha’s accidental slip caused by fear of the monkeys.
The unfortunate incident has reignited concerns about the growing presence of monkeys at hill temples in Tamil Nadu. Authorities have repeatedly warned against feeding wild animals to prevent such incidents, emphasizing the need for visitor caution at pilgrimage sites.
